Running Y Ranch Resort – The Best-Kept Secret in Southern Oregon
The Setting
The landscape here is something else. High desert meets pine forest, wide open sky, and wetlands that stretch as far as you can see. It doesn’t feel like a resort — it feels like you actually went somewhere. Every direction you look, there’s a photo waiting to happen.
The Golf Course
Running Y has an Arnold Palmer-designed course that holds up against anything in the region. The layout is challenging and creative, and playing with that backdrop makes it hard to care about your score (especially if you don’t score well). One of the more memorable rounds I’ve had in a while.
The Rooms
Clean, comfortable, and well put together. The beds are genuinely cozy — the kind you don’t want to leave in the morning — and the views from the room make waking up easy. No complaints, nothing felt dated or overlooked. They’ve taken care of the place.
The Ruddy Duck Restaurant
Don’t skip dinner here. The Ruddy Duck sits right on the water with views of the lake and wetlands that are breathtaking — especially at golden hour. The food matched the setting, and we ended up staying way longer than planned just watching the light fade over the water.
Why It's Worth the Trip
If you want a real getaway at a good price — great golf, incredible nature, good food, and none of the generic resort energy you get with other golf resorts— Running Y is the call. Even if you are just passing through on the 97, it’s without a doubt the best place to stay in Southern Oregon.
